Just turned 53, I will not stop working as long as my body lasts
Even though I have a house in Birganj Metropolitan Municipality-18, Bhawanipur, I sew shoes by sitting in a street box in the south-west corner of Ghadiarwa Pokhari in Birganj. One has to cycle 10 kilometers daily from home to Birganj. Since I was used to riding a bicycle since I was a child, it is not difficult.
Now I am 53 years old . After coming from home at 9 in the morning, I stay in my street box till 8 in the evening . My job starts in the morning after laying the cloth on the street, sewing shoes and shining things. Customers come more in the morning and in the evening . 2 to 400 rupees are earned on the day many customers come. Sometimes customers don't come . On such a day, one should return home disappointed. Returning home empty-handed from here means lack of pulses and rice in the kitchen.
Parents have passed away. Brother Bhai Biga Ram is also separated. In the village there is a small paddy field at 7 Dhur Ghaderi . That is my home world. The family consists of wife Umadevi and 2 sons and 1 daughter . Eldest daughter Sanjuli is married. The younger 17-year-old Anjuli helps her mother in the stove at home. The elder son Govinda was 30 and the younger Uddhav was 22 years old. 4 granddaughters and two grandsons have been born from the eldest. The younger Uddhav's marriage has also been fixed . She plans to get married next year.
I was able to study only up to class 5 . From the age of children, they had to carry the burden of household chores . Such is the fate and deeds of the children of the poor. I wanted to read it but I couldn't. I went to Raxaul, a neighboring Indian city of Virgunj, and learned to work as a cobbler. Go there daily and learn skills from people from our own community who do the same thing . Some people think that it is the caste profession of Chamar. They must have thought like this because they work with leather . Some of our natives also play instruments. But I don't know that skill .
My father worked and raised us. I sewed shoes and raised my children . Sadness is written. Can't be left even if you want . My sons are suffering the same now . They also could not study more than 5/6 class . Seeing my suffering, they also started going to work as laborers from a young age.
I also have my own kind of grief . After the left eye deteriorated 5 years ago, the doctor removed the pupil . Now I have put a fake glass eye in the left eye . One eye is filled with . Wife Uma also has diabetes, thyroid, blood pressure and heart disease. His medicine costs a lot. There is a big family of 12 including children at home.
50 kg of rice and 10 kg of pulses are spent monthly. 20 kg of flour is also needed. Must eat vegetables, marmasala, milk-yogurt etc. We eat chicken at least once a week. Ration only costs 12 to 15 thousand per month. Don't have your own farming . Everything must be bought and eaten. Me and my two sons' earnings have run Zenten household expenses . Thaplo has a loan of 500,000 rupees during house-dealing.
I have taken a loan of 4 lakh from Nirdhan Utthan Bank and 1 lakh 50 thousand from another microfinance. 5 to 7 thousand rupees is also spent to pay the monthly principal interest . Sons say not to work anymore . But I can't live without working . The body is moving . As long as it lasts, I won't stop working . If I don't work, it will be difficult for them to run the house alone . We sons and daughters could not read even if we wanted to. But they want their grandchildren to study as much as possible and become a big man . I have never seen a bigger dream than this . It is not possible for us poor people to dream big.
is to do the work that God gave birth to on earth. Karma will not leave . May the body remain disease-free like this. May you always be able to work . Put your hands in your mouth in the morning and evening. There is nothing more to wish for.
