”20-year-old sewing machine is costing the house”

Earlier, in the name of Balighare, we had to take 2/4 of the grain and go to the house to sew it throughout the year, now that has disappeared.

Sewing is our profession for three generations. Grandfather and father used to carry the machine and go to the houses of the village to sew. I also remember doing something like this in my childhood. After that I spent a lot of time going to many places for sewing, cutting and weaving.

My house is in a village called Chandrakot of Chandrakot rural municipality-4. I was born in Upper Chandrakot in the year 2022. My home and residence is still there. I come to Shantipur Sri Lanka for business . Business business is just that now, especially it has become easier to spend the day . There are 4 of us at home including wife, son-daughter-in-law.

I learned to sew clothes when I was 16. Now I am 60 years old, the sign of this has not been erased . Even now, our household expenses are being spent from this small shop . I have never known a good income in my life. Even if you can earn 500 rupees daily, you will still have household expenses. This should be called income .

I learned this profession from my father at home and I also went out and did it . 5 years in Kathmandu, 10 years in India and living here doing business in this way, almost 15 years have started . If we were to compare, we would have earned something better. But we have been displaced by ready-made clothes.

At 10 o'clock in the morning, I drive down from home after 1 hour . And after 5 o'clock in the evening, I climb uphill for an hour and a half and reach home . If you look at this misery, the market will fall just to pass the time. If you don't count your income, you should be satisfied with your household expenses. It's delicious enough to eat .

I have 1 son and 4 daughters . Taught everyone up to class 10 . After that, they are engaged in their own work . I have considered myself satisfied with this too. Earlier, I had to go to the house and sew it in the name of Balighara . But the work done throughout the year would not be enough to eat even half a year . They used to give 2/4 paddy, maize and millet . In addition to this, their clothes had to be sewn throughout the year.

Now I have rented and started my own business . I pay rent of 1 thousand rupees per month . The rent has been the same for 15 years. Now slowly I can't do the same thing as before. When age does not support you, you are slowly getting away from everything.

He is proud of himself for being able to modernize a traditional profession. Even if the income is lost, it seems that a level has been established . The custom of carrying a machine to sew has been removed . Although it is traditional at home, we have done agriculture. It has also helped in household expenses . There is no return according to investment in village agriculture . However, the livelihood is going on . It was not possible to leave the land barren. We have also done agriculture to forget about the family .

I still have a sewing machine that I bought 20 years ago for 5,500. Which I am repairing and running . Also has an interlock machine . These two machines are taking care of my household expenses . If you have skills and knowledge in your hands, you won't have to go hungry anywhere. That's what I have experienced from my profession.
