”Pakhobari's crop is not enough to eat even for a month”

The family resides in Khandachakra-4, Chiurela. I am 51 years old. However, after 60 years of citizenship. I crush gravel on the banks of the Karnali highway and in Serofero of Tadi village to drain the water. Even if there is a little paddy field, the crops are not enough to feed a family of 11 people for a month.

Every day at 9 in the morning, after climbing the hill of Tadi village and going to work, I return home only when it is dusk. 7/8 thousand is earned in a month by pounding gravel without rest . There is also no address for wages . Sometimes if I deliver a tractor full of ballast, I get Rs 5,000 . After collecting stones and piling them on the head, it will soon break . When searching for stones and beating, sometimes Hanahani fever occurs. Thela is raised in the palm.

After the death of my husband due to asthma 6 years ago, all the responsibilities of the house are on me . Social Security Allowance has been getting for two years . It depends on whether to eat or bring. The amount of allowance is enough to buy clothes.

I was born in a motel in Daha village of Sabik. I was only 6 years old, my parents died. Mother passed away due to measles and severe stomach pain! Then I grew up in my uncle's house . After reaching the age of 15, he got married to Mandire Kami Viyal of Tadi village, who was twice his age. After the son was not born from my first wife Poonkali, I was forcibly taken in as a second wife.

Now Mary Souta is a Dalit woman member of Poonkali Palika . I had my first child at the age of 16. There is now a stepdaughter, three daughters, a son-daughter-in-law and two grandchildren . I wake up early and cook for my children and get to work.

I educated my son Birendra till graduation. The son, who has studied up to graduation, is also working in the construction of the school building . He earns 800 per day. The daughter-in-law is a women's health volunteer.

I have bought two goats by saving the amount that can be obtained by crushing gravel . As the family is big, the household expenses are only 20,000 per month. Cooking firewood is not available like before. Must buy gas . Water, lights, rations, daughter and grandchildren, pen, dress, etc. earned from wages are fine.

My husband also used to go to India to do wage labour. Now that the road has reached the village, the work has also started to be done here . Wage/wage work does not always earn the same amount. Therefore, I don't think that money can be saved from such work . However, the son has dreamed of building a concrete house after suffering. The daughter-in-law says that sometimes she could bring gold ornaments. It is difficult to fulfill all the dreams of us poor people.

It is impossible to see the suffering of the children until they die. Mother says that the son should not go to beat the pebbles, my heart does not accept it . One day my son will get a job and I will rest. So she is not disappointed. If all the grandchildren study, how will they be able to meet the household expenses?

You have to think ten times to buy and eat what you like. Sometimes, instead of going for a walk to the bazaar, money is wasted. After the end of the month, the money comes to hand, but after a day ends, the Goji is empty. I have never been happy. It was like saying 'Ghar Souta, Mait Sanima'. Lack of parents at a young age, now the vacancy of a husband . It's as if you could eat a full stomach and eat one at a time .

When we come to grind gravel, we bring bread, salt and pepper and water from home along with the sisters of the village . Since there are many friends, there is no shortage of friends to talk about happiness and sadness. Because they grind gravel on the roadside, sometimes even the people who come to Rara through this road will give one hundred and fifty rupees to eat breakfast.
