When I was young, I used to see my parents working at the marimete. They used to do farming. Despite that, the economic situation did not improve. Parents raised us in poverty. I started helping my parents at the age of 12/13 when I could not afford the household expenses no matter how hard I tried. I also learned to farm by watching them work. That also encouraged me to embrace the agricultural profession.
Ubjani quit studying after passing SLC as it was better to avoid morning-evening classes and there was nothing to save. After not being able to study higher education, I also got to hold my parents' hoe and hoe.
He didn't stay with his parents for a long time . After the death of both of them, I moved from Karagithi in Salyan to Triveni Rural Municipality-1 Kavra and started farming on my own land. I produce vegetables along with food crops . After I started getting income from selling vegetables, I expanded it commercially. I am spending the money earned from vegetables on my children's education.
Now I am cultivating vegetables on five plantations of land . With the money earned from this, I have built a house to live near the farm . I get up at 5 in the morning and do vegetable soup and bowel movements . The wife cuts grass for the cattle . In the morning, I pick vegetables and take them to the nearby market and sell them. According to the season, one earns from 1,000 to 1,500 by selling vegetables daily. Selling up to 35,000 vegetables in a month results in a turnover of 420,000 rupees.
Because we produce in our own farm, we don't need to buy food and vegetables . Buy only salt, oil and fish . I save up to 25,000 per month by cutting all expenses. Due to poor financial condition, I could not pursue higher education. Had to depend on the agricultural profession . But even at the age of 44, I am working tirelessly so that my children are not deprived of education. Now my aim is to give my children higher education.
Son Rajesh is 29 and daughter Parvati is 25 years old. The son has studied pharmacy in Kathmandu. The daughter completed her graduation in Butwal. Now they are preparing for Public Service Commission. I send 20 to 22 thousand rupees per month for my children.
Since the son is also doing a small job, there is no need to send as much money as before. I have thought of building a mobile home only after my children complete their higher education . I am not able to build a comfortable house to live in but I am very happy to teach my children.
As the children stay outside for studies, now we are only husband and wife at home . Me and 46-year-old wife Krishna Thapa are busy with our own work . Both of them working together has not only been very easy, now both of them have got jobs . Not only that, it has also become easier to cut the day .
In recent times, the young generation has been going abroad for higher education as well as employment. As the young generation migrates, the villages are becoming deserted, and when there are only old people in the house, even the arable land is becoming sterile . But I want my children to take the Public Service Commission exam and enter the government service without going out for employment. That's why I have made not only to provide higher education but also to prepare for public service.
