We raised buffaloes that gave 10/12 liters of milk daily till the time when our children supported us. There was no market to sell the milk, children used to eat it.
My husband Santosh Rajbhandari's ancestral home is at Birendrachowk in Fungling Bazar, the headquarters of Taplejung. His brothers are still there. After getting married in the year 2040, I also moved into the market house. As he (husband) was a teacher, we migrated to Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality-4, Chaksibate. At that time there was a small school in Sayulala. I used to cook food in the morning and evening and take it to school.
Four daughters and one son were born and raised here. After applying the clay here, we bought eight annas of land and built a mud house. Children also studied primary level in this school . Above that, some studied in Bhanujan Mavi of the headquarters and some in Sirijanga-1, Sinam . Now Jethi Morang, Miley Jhapa, Saili and Kanchi are in Kathmandu. We all got married. One son is studying and doing business in Kathmandu.
After my husband retired, we bought two ghaderis (bricks) in Jhapa's Virtamod with the money he left school and sold his ancestral land. Yet we are living in the village . I am running a snack shop . Sarmis of the school have tea and lunch here . Now, even though there is a shop along with the breakfast shop, it doesn't work that much . Sometimes they come to eat . I sell plain food for 200 rupees and meat food for 300 rupees per plate. She did not take the money for accommodation.
We raised buffaloes that gave 10/12 liters of milk daily until the time when our children supported us. Although there was plenty of milk, there was no market. Children used to eat milk and curd. We used to sell some ghee . We used to make mohi and give it to the same buffalo. It takes at least three/four hours from the headquarters, Fungling, to reach our village. As the vehicle runs regularly, if there are things like vegetables to be sold, they could be sent to the market . But there are only two of us. Husband has sugar and pressure . Can't do much work .
We don't buy and eat vegetables . We produce by ourselves . Potatoes can be bought for 50 to 80 rupees per kg. Paddy is also available for 200 rupees. You have to buy salt, oil, sugar . Sugar 120, Ayo salt 35 and Dhike salt 25 rupees per kg . Khasi and local chicken meat is 700 rupees per kg. We have reared three goats because they are manure and also sold for meat. As there are only two people, the household expenses are not much . We eat rice in the morning and in the evening as much as one mana daily. In the afternoon, we eat squash, yams, and potatoes. There are five plantations for that .
Our biggest expense is in treatment . Husband has to go to Kathmandu to get checked. There is a lot of expenditure on house rent and medicine. I don't know exactly . However, the husband's pension is paying. The children are shouting that ``Father's health is not good, you also come here to Kathmandu, let's stay here''. But I don't want to leave this house at all . I am thinking of visiting my grandchildren once in Baisakh and coming back. But I think we should sit here and do something until Hatgoda runs. Even if you have to go later, you will not sell the house. This is the house where my children grew up. Much love.
Big expenses were incurred in marriage . Now expenses will increase during festivals and when guests come. One time exactly 65 thousand was spent . You should save a little for such a time . Before, there was no road, no transportation. Now the road has also been built, the cars have also started coming . But the children are saying that if they do not stay in the village, they cannot get treatment when they are sick. This is a concern. First, when teaching our children, we had to buy books, paper, and clothes. Now they also buy clothes. Books are available for free .
