I have spent 45 years playing sarangi in the Khandbari market. When I was old, I used to sing songs so that my throat would dry up. Old songs played well. Along with the age, the era of listening to sarangi tunes has also gone.

We have been living in Zarayotar, Arun Rural Municipality-6 of Bhojpur since Baje's time. At the age of reading and writing, my father taught me to play the fiddle and hum the song.

Now I am 61 years old . The same skills learned in childhood are still helping to make a living. I have 1 daughter and 4 sons. If the daughter is married, the four sons are not in contact now . Since they could not earn enough to stay at home and eat and drink, the sons became rich. They fell in love without talking now. Even when I was married, I could not fulfill the wishes and needs of my children.

My friend says that the condition of this 10-year-old sarangi is not good . Even though its strings are not moving, I am still playing them . I am known as Bam Bahadur Gayne in the village/town . Earlier one had to walk for one day to reach Khandbari from Zarayotar . It has become easier now that the car has started running from home to here. After crossing the Arun Bridge on foot from home, I take a car from Leguwa in Dhankuta to Khandbari and reach the courtyards here and recite songs.

Every day those who see the distress of going door-to-door pay from 5 to 50 rupees. The day after singing a song is enough for a single soul to eat. You have to spend the days without food . After the death of my wife Saraswati two years ago, I became alone . When she was a wife, she used to accompany her by walking and singing songs. 400 per day is spent for food and living in Khandbari . We have to spend all day to collect this amount. If you are lucky, you will earn up to 1000. Sometimes it is not even possible to earn 100 rupees .

On the one hand, due to old age, the voice does not come out of the throat, on the other hand, the string of the sarangi has not been changed . Therefore, if we cannot sing songs in such a way as to attract the audience, now we do not even get money to buy pulses and rice . I live here with a relative's shelter . Although the food is expensive, I go to the hotel and eat plain food because I have to live alone. I eat beef and rice once in 15 days.

My focus is on how to get two money. Morning and evening I sit on the side of the road with a handkerchief. In Khandbari, a lot of money is collected on the day of Saturday haat. There are now 15 Gandharva families in Zarayotar. Monkeys do not give care even if cultivated in fields. There is a lack of drinking water due to the dry hills. As vegetables do not grow, the green fairy cannot be seen . That is why sad songs should not be sung.

I have 50/60 songs memorized. The voice is not able to sing popular songs. It's been two years since I bought new clothes. Most of them give me old clothes worn by others and I wear them . I walk around wearing dirty and tattered, stained clothes . Couldn't collect enough money to sing songs. However, I have saved 2/4 thousand to treat the patient . However, if you get a serious illness, there is no other option but to get sick.

If you go to the market to buy a new fiddle and ask the price, it is 20,000. After hearing the price, I was saddened and returned home after smelling the new sarangi. Last year, while going to cut grass in a tree, I fell and was paralyzed for a month. 30,000 was spent on treatment at that time . Due to the injury at that time, my back hurts even now. I have learned to be difficult in a house made of mud . When my body supports me, I earn up to 500 a day by working as a mason. However, now that concrete houses are being built, that work has also been taken away.
