As farmers do not have enough to eat for more than two/three months, we starved ourselves for days by feeding only our daughters.
It was only when the eldest daughter said that she had reached 50 years old after looking at her citizenship, that she was already so old. Born in Kaudakot, Gaumul Rural Municipality of Bajura, I only remember being married at a young age. I was spending my days alone after my husband passed away within eight years of marriage.
Coincidentally, eight years ago when you met Joggiri Bohra of Lataun, Mashta rural municipality-7 of Bajhang, what touched your heart? After marrying him, he came home only to find out that he already has a wife and 6 daughters. They have been bringing me in with the hope that a son will be born. I was ashamed to return even after knowing that the
had happened to Souta. I realized that fate is like this. After three daughters were born to me, the number of family members increased to a dozen . How to raise the daughter of a farmer who is less than two/three months old? How many days have we fed only our daughters and slept hungry? Many times I wanted to jump into the river carrying my daughters, but I couldn't do it.
When we could not raise ourselves, we started entrusting our daughters to others in terms of what to do, teach and raise them. One daughter born from the eldest is already married. Two other daughters are working and studying in a hotel in Chainpur and another in a health worker's house. Kalilai three daughters are growing up in the village .
The eldest daughter born to me is working and studying in the house of an older sister in Bajhang. I am washing dishes in a hotel in Chainpur and teaching my two daughters by myself . I have been able to come to Chainpur from Lataun by God. Unable to take care of my three-year-old daughter, I entrusted her to a businessman in Kathmandu. The businessman returned it within two weeks saying that he could not speak. After Kantipur Patrika wrote that news, Prabhat Yonjan Dai of Kathmandu said that he would give 5000 per month to educate his daughters. It is with his help that I decided to live in Chainpur.
Now both daughters are studying in Bal Mandir School. Apart from the expenses sent by Prabhat Dai, I also earn thousands a month by doing dishes in hotels. I have rented a room by paying 2500. I have collected everything from this to books, cloths and food for my daughter . As much as 2500 a month is spent on buying rice and flour. Three thousand pulses are spent on vegetables. Daughters cry because they don't go to school if they don't give them biscuits and noodles. Even if they are given 20/20 rupees a day, they will not get a thousand/twelve hundred a month . Last January, I gave both daughters new clothes worth two thousand each. I bought clothes worth 1500 for myself last Dasain. I have put away those old clothes and brought them . Even if someone gives me old clothes, I will work .
As my younger daughter is a meat lover, I buy meat worth 200 once/twice a month. We buy 50 rupees a liter of honey twice a week. She is afraid to take her daughter to the market with her. It breaks my heart to see my daughter crying in the market insisting on buying pomegranates and apples. Husband has gone to work in Khadikhan (Kharidhunga mine) in India . Because they have a habit of consuming drugs, they do not save what they have earned. If there is a problem in the village, I will send money instead.
When I was underage, I started working by asking the hotel's moneylenders. Even when Sahu and Sahuni asked for it, they still did not say no . It is said that the salary will be increased to 10,000. After the increase in salary, I have thought whether my daughters should be withdrawn from the government and admitted to boarding schools. If the future of my daughter is good, I am ready to suffer. It has been three years since I met my eldest daughter . Listening to speech on the phone feels love . Loves to hold . I want to keep my three daughters together and feed them by cooking with my own hands.
