Nepal context in the Epstein files: from the Mustangi king to carpets and applications from people of Nepali origin

The references to Nepal or Nepalis found so far do not appear to be related to the major topics of controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, such as sexual misconduct, human trafficking, and rape. However, some CVs with Nepali names are in the Ministry of Justice's 'Epstein Library'.

Three million pages of secret documents and 180,000 photographs related to Jeffrey Epstein, released by the US Department of Justice amid a major political controversy, have been found to contain various references to Nepal.

The 'Epstein Library' on the website of the Ministry of Justice contains emails related to Nepal, from the King of Mustang to carpets and post-earthquake aid.

This issue, which has become a major political issue in the US in the last few months, has sparked a debate on social media after some references to Nepal were found. Some of the information is in the form of images and cannot be easily found by searching for 'key words'.

The BBC has also mentioned that most of the published materials have been scanned and some pages have been completely or partially redacted for security and privacy, making it impossible to easily search and read or analyze them. Similarly, the news mentions that there is a possibility of spreading misleading information that can be easily created using AI, such as email screenshots or official documents.

According to data from the US Department of Justice, Nepal's name is mentioned 118 times in this case, in which about 3 million pages, 180 thousand images and 2 thousand videos have been made public. However, the details mentioned in these documents do not indicate that Epstein or his group are involved in any criminal incidents or serious cases in Nepal or have not been found so far .

The documents mention Nepal in connection with Mustang, Kathmandu and post-earthquake assistance . American billionaire Thomas Pritzker, former chairman of the Hyatt hotel chain, has claimed in an email that the king of Mustang is his friend. The document does not disclose which king of Mustang.

Another document shows that a Tibetan carpet made in Nepal was bought and sold for about 51 thousand US dollars . Epstein himself and his colleagues have been found to have repeatedly mentioned Nepali carpets in the email conversations. These emails mention that Tenzing Nepali of Stark Carpet in New York met with Epstein and tried to sell him carpets . Another interior design includes a ‘Nepal coffee table’. Epstein's interest in products such as hand-woven carpets in Nepal can be understood from the context of several emails.

A person whose email was redacted by the department repeatedly told Epstein about unique places like Nepal or Tibet, and even claimed that children's feces in the Himalayan region of Nepal could contain medicine.  One aspect of Epstein's interest in Nepal can be understood from various emails containing microbiome research.

Another context in which Nepal is frequently mentioned is aid after the 2072 BS earthquake.  In an email addressed to Epstein, Czech model Petra Nemcova urged Epstein to help young children in Nepal who had lost their homes, schools, and relatives.  There has been no direct evidence to date that Epstein helped Petra, who raised nearly 3.5 million US dollars in the first two years after the earthquake through her organization Happy Hearts Fund to repair schools and provide other assistance in Nuwakot, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchowk and other districts.  However, the organization is still working in Nepal as a volunteer under the name All Hands and Hearts.

In another email, William Speier of the organization Second Response thanked Epstein for the $25,000 donation, stating that the donation was spent on helping Nepal.

An email sent to Epstein by the Israeli military newsletter about Nepal also claims that he reached Nepal after the earthquake and treated about 1,500 people. Epstein is recorded to have made regular donations to the Israeli Defense Force, also known as the IDF, during his time.

It seems that various people have also sought help from Epstein with the reference to Nepal. One person has asked Epstein for a job saying that he donated $10,000 to the Nepal Medical Association.

Similarly, personal details of various people who worked for Epstein or for undisclosed purposes can also be found in public documents by the US Department of Justice. In one of them, an email is sent to Epstein's then-girlfriend Karina Shauliak.

The email presents a Nepali woman who has obtained a green card in the US to work as a domestic worker for Karina. It is not clear from the documents found so far how many Nepalis worked for Epstein or his associates or whether any Nepalese or people of Nepali descent were involved in Epstein's criminal activities.
