The issue of Jeffrey Epstein in American politics has taken a dramatic turn. Meanwhile, the US Parliament's surveillance committee has decided to call former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for a statement.
The committee has also summoned eight former US attorneys general and the former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to testify in the Epstein-related child abuse and human trafficking cases that have been going on for a few months.
It is mentioned on the committee's website that everyone has been instructed to attend the statement within the next two weeks. The directive states that the Clintons should appear before the committee for testimony on October 9 and 14, respectively. James Corner, chairman of the committee, is of the opinion that the Epstein issue should be looked at in a new way. Corner said that there should be an investigation into issues such as Bill Clinton flying Epstein's personal plane to his island, Portugal and China 26 times.
US President Donald Trump, who has been saying that he is not involved in issues related to Epstein for the past few months, has recently been claiming that the issue is irrelevant and unnecessary. At this time, the parliamentary committee decided to call these various high-ranking people in its investigation. In July, the US Department of Justice and the FBI disclosed that there was no "client list" related to Epstein. However, the committee has proceeded with the investigation.
While he was the president between 2001 and 2003, it is mentioned in the official documents that Clinton flew with Epstein 26 times to different parts of Europe, Asia and Africa on his private ship "Lolita Express" because of the work of the Clinton Foundation. According to a Clinton Foundation spokesperson in media reports, the flights were based on charitable causes, including HIV AIDS. However, in recent days, some photos spread on the Internet and in the media show Clinton with Epstein's former chief assistant, Chante Davis. Epstein personally contributed $20,000 to Hillary Clinton's foundation.
Former President Bill Clinton has been claiming that he never visited Epstein's island. According to Reuters, his wife Hillary was called by the nephew of Epstein's partner, Gilen Maxwell, on the grounds that she may also be involved in the case, citing the fact that she worked on his campaign. The Trump administration has also investigated other senior officials of the Obama administration under various pretexts.
Along with the Clinton couple, former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, former US attorneys general, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland and Alberto Gonzalez have been asked by the committee to testify.
Currently, the demand to release the secret Epstein files in the US has reached its peak. The Epstein Files is a collection of legal documents, flight records, meeting notes and sealed records related to investor Jeffrey Epstein.
The files are believed to contain details of how he molested the girls and who else was involved. Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal charges of engaging in sex trafficking of minors. (with help from the agency)
