After the suspicious death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the Indian state of Odisha, it has raised many questions. Are Nepali students studying in India and other countries safe? And what will be the government's role in the many problems faced by Nepali students studying abroad?

Prakriti, a third-year B-Tech student, was found dead in her hostel on Sunday evening. After this incident, a debate has also started on how Nepal government can play a role in the safety and interest of thousands of students studying in India and what can be done to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The death of Lamsal, who lived in Siddharth Nagar-8, Bank Kalouni, Rupandehi, has been declared suicide by KIIT in a statement. But  Prakriti's post-mortem report has not yet arrived. The students studying in KIIT have said that Lamsal has been abused repeatedly and the college administration has shown extreme negligence in this incident . A family member said that Prakriti had informed the college administration about a month ago that they had been subjected to torture.

On Monday morning, the university administration issued a notice to all Nepali students to leave the dormitory immediately after the students' protest escalated. But after the all-round controversy, the university administration issued a statement in the evening and asked Nepali students to return to the hostel.
This incident has been discussed from the Parliament to the House. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has also shown his interest in this incident.

The Ministry of Education has warned that foreign study permits (NOCs) will be stopped if the incidents and problems in KIIT are not resolved justly. Two senior officers of the Nepal Police have reached KIIT from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi to understand the situation of Nepali students and to create a security environment for the Nepali students in the college.

On Tuesday, the university issued a notice about the incident and informed that two security guards have been dismissed. Similarly, two senior officials of the hostel and one administrative officer have also been dismissed until the incident is investigated, the university said.
