A person who was asking for votes from Congress voters by giving cash in collaboration with UML candidates and workers in Baitadi has been arrested along with election training materials and cash.

A patrol team of the Armed Police Force from Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-3 in the district took 52-year-old Bhandev Bhatta under control along with cash and election training materials on Wednesday afternoon. Police Inspector Suraj Singh, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Baitadi, informed that Rs 79,500 in cash and election training materials were recovered from him.

Bhatta was caught with cash and sample ballots during the election silence period and handed over to the police by an armed force team, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Nepali Congress Baitadi said that it had sent a letter to the district administration on Tuesday to monitor the information that some people including Bhandev Bhatta had distributed money to Congress workers in collaboration with UML workers.

Chief District Officer Krishna Thapa said that Bhatta has been under surveillance since receiving the letter from the Congress and was arrested with cash this afternoon.

Even though Bhatta is a member of the Farmers' Federation close to the Nepali Congress, the Congress sent a letter to the administration to monitor him after receiving information that he was campaigning for the UML, said Dipendra Bahadur Chand, Joint Secretary of the Nepali Congress Baitadi.
