Royal Challengers Bangalore have defended their Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 75 as Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final on Sunday.
Opener Kohli hit nine fours and three sixes in 42 balls as Bengaluru chased down the target of 156 runs in front of 130,000 people at Gujarat's home ground Narendra Modi Stadium, scoring 161 runs in 12 balls. This was Kohli's fifth half-century in the tournament.

Openers Venkatesh Iyer 32, Devdutt Padikkal 1, Patidar 15, Krunal Pandya 1 and Tim David 24 were out. Gujarat's Rashid Khan took 2 wickets. Bengaluru won the title for the first time last year in the 18th edition of the IPL. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, Bengaluru defended the title this time. Gujarat won the IPL for the first time in 2022.
Earlier, Gujarat, who had lost the toss and opted to bat after Indian bowler Rashid Salam took 3 wickets, was reduced to a score of 155-8. Bengaluru's fast bowlers won the toss and proved the team's decision to field correctly. Despite some resistance from Washington Sundar, who scored an unbeaten 50 runs, Bengaluru continued to take wickets.
Jason Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also bowled well and took 2 wickets each. Hazlewood dismissed Shubman Gill for 10 runs early on. Patidar took a brilliant running catch to send Gill back to the pavilion. Kumar dismissed Sai Sudarshan for 12 runs in the next over. Both Gill and Sudarshan were in contention for the ‘Orange Cap’ for the most runs. But after they were dismissed early, the title went to 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals. He scored the highest 776 runs. Gill scored 732 and Sudarshan scored 722.
Nishant Sindhu scored 20 and Jos Buttler played unnecessary shots for 19 runs. After these two were dismissed, Gujarat reached 73-4 in the 13th over.
