Nepali cricket team captain Rohit Kumar Poudel has said that the team's goal is to reach the Super Eights of the Twenty20 World Cup 2026.
Two days before the tournament officially begins, at the 'Captain's Day' program organized at the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCI), he said that Nepal's participation in this World Cup will inspire the next generation to join the game of cricket.
In response to a question from Kantipur, Rohit said, 'All the players in the current team have come to this game inspired by the first Twenty20 World Cup played by Nepal in 2014. I believe that our participation in this World Cup will help the next generation see their careers in cricket.' In the meantime, he added that for this, the Nepali team's performance in the tournament will also have to be good.
He also said that Nepal should remain positive about its chances in the tournament. His argument was, 'We have not only defeated the West Indies, we have also won the series. We were also able to come close to victory in the matches against Bangladesh and South Africa.' All this will keep us motivated to play in this World Cup.' He also admitted that he is a fan of former Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
When asked about the similarity of the names of these two players, he said, 'Needless to say, I am a fan of Rohit Sharma. But it would be a bit unfair to expect too much from my game just because I have the same name as him. But we Nepal are ready to play according to the expectations from this World Cup and we will perform accordingly.'
