Kathmandu Gurkhas have signed Namibian captain Merby Gerard Erasmus. Gerrard will play for Kathmandu Gurkhaz in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket to be held in Kathmandu from December 15.
He was selected as the player of the year by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2022 and has played 52 one-day internationals and 65 twenty-20 internationals for Namibia. In that sequence, he has scored nearly 2,000 runs in ODIs as well as 38 wickets and has also taken 53 wickets by making 1,557 runs in Twenty20 internationals.
Namibia reached the Super 12 of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2021 after Erasmus scored an unbeaten 53 in a captaincy role to lead to an 8-wicket victory over Ireland. In February this year, Namibia won 3 out of 4 matches against Nepal and Netherlands in World Cup League 2 in Kirtipur. In which he scored a half-century in the second match against Nepal.

Erasmus, who played International League T-20 in Dubai, said that he is very eager to come to Kathmandu and play NPL with Gurkhaz. "I feel very proud to be a member of the Gurkhaz family. I am proud to represent an iconic team in Nepal, a nation known for its courage and strength," Erasmus said. "We are ready to bring that fearless spirit to the cricket field and make it memorable."
He is the second foreign player from Gurkhaz to play in the NPL. Netherlands opener Michael Levitt has already been roped in by Gurkhaz. Levitt is the fastest century scorer in Twenty20 internationals from the Netherlands. In March, he scored 135 runs off 62 balls against Namibia at the Kirtipur ground, scoring a century off 49 balls. In that tour, Levitt scored half centuries in two of the three Twenty20 international matches against Nepal.
Karan KC is one of the 'marquee' players of Kathmandu Gurkhaz, owned by Kathmandu Sports Development Venture. Gurkhaz picked up Shahab Alam, Bhim Sarki, Rashid Khan, Shankar Rana, Krishna Karki, Dipesh Kandel, Sumit Maharjan, Raju Rizal, Vivek KC and Prateek Shrestha from Aksan.
