Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Dipakraj Bohara, from the ruling party, has called for diplomatic initiatives with India, stating that Nepal has not received the water it is entitled to under the Mahakali Treaty. Speaking at Wednesday's meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Bohara said that due to Nepal's lack of necessary initiatives with India, Mahakali's water has not been released towards Nepal and farmers have not received irrigation facilities.
MP Bohara said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take the initiative with India to release Mahakali's water towards Nepal. "It was stated that both countries would use the water of the Mahakali River at the Sarada Barrage, but due to the lack of diplomatic initiatives with India, water has not been released here. Of the 48-kilometer project, about 30 kilometers have been completed," said MP Bohara. "I draw the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take diplomatic initiatives with India through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to release this water."
MP Bohara also urged that the remaining work of the Mahakali Irrigation Project, which is listed as a National Pride Project, should be completed.
Similarly, MP Bohara also demanded that the government listen to the voices of the people of Ward No. 9 of Krishnapur Municipality, the final point of the Mahakali Irrigation Project, who have been protesting. He also said that there has been objection because the people were not consulted during the demarcation of the Mahakali Irrigation Project in this area between two rivers. He stated that decisions regarding the project should be made after listening to the people's demands.
