Four transport entrepreneurs from different parties across the country have emerged as candidates in the upcoming House of Representatives elections, championing the cause of transport entrepreneurs and transport workers.
Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs Punya Prasad Sitaula said that they have entered the election fray to lead Nepal's public transport sector, which is under the investment and control of the private sector, to the level of policy-making.
According to Senior Vice President Sitaula, Federation Central President Bijay Bahadur Swar from the Nepali Congress has filed his candidacy from Kailali-2, Western Transport Entrepreneur Bishnu Khadka from Surkhet-1, and Senior Businessman Bhagwat Malla from Syangja-2. Similarly, Karnali Transport Chief Ramesh Sapkota from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has filed his candidacy from Surkhet-2.
He said that although public transport is the service used the most by Nepali citizens, the voice of the transport sector has not been heard due to the lack of representation of that sector in the parliament. He said, "The lack of representation of the transport sector in policy-making has led to the stagnation of the transport sector, which has received huge investment from Nepal and is the carrier of the country's economic prosperity."
