The CPN (UML) has decided to field Madhav Prasad Dhungel as its candidate in Ramechhap for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21. The party's central secretariat meeting held on Saturday designated Dhungel as the official candidate.
Dhungel is a central member of UML and also the Ramechhap district in-charge. The central secretariat finally selected Dhungel as the candidate from eight potential candidates recommended by the district committee and Bagmati Province Committee.
The district committee had recommended Madhav Prasad Dhungel, former Politburo member Kamal Prasad Chaulagain Geeta Karki, Bagmati Province Chairman Kailash Prasad Dhungel, province member Ratna Prasad Gautam, outgoing province secretariat member Shanti Prasad Poudel, province member Parashuram Basnet and former province member Keshar Budhathoki as candidates. The same list was also sent to the center by the Bagmati Province Committee.
The central secretariat meeting on Saturday took the final decision to field Dhungel as the UML candidate in Ramechhap, said Rakesh Shrestha, head of the UML Ramechhap Publicity and Publication Department. As Ramechhap is the only constituency of the House of Representatives, the election atmosphere in the district has heated up further with this decision.
