UML Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta has said that the UML will oppose the US's treatment of Venezuela. He said that the issue was discussed in the secretariat meeting held on Tuesday.

Stating that the meeting discussed the issue of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro being taken away from his home by US soldiers, he said, 'The sovereignty and integrity of the country must be respected. The behavior of the US in Venezuela and from the perspective of world justice can never be acceptable. We oppose such an incident. We call for a return to the world order.'

Bhatta also said that the behavior adopted in Venezuela is not acceptable from the perspective of international law and world justice.

Earlier, from former Prime Minister and NCP leader Jhalanath Khanal to NCP (United) Acting Chairman Ghanshyam Bhusal and from UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel to UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet, people had condemned and opposed the attack on Venezuela.

Last Saturday, the US captured Maduro, 63, and his wife Cilia Flores from a safe house in a military mission dubbed 'Operation Absolute Resolve'. Maduro, who appeared in federal court in New York City on Monday, said he was 'innocent' . He described himself as a 'decent man' and said he was kidnapped from his home in Caracas.
