Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has called a meeting of office bearers. The meeting is to be held at President Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence in Maharajgunj.
A meeting is being held within the party to discuss the special general convention dispute and the national assembly elections. The dispute has escalated within the Congress after the Congress Central Working Committee's meeting on Friday decided that the appropriateness of the special general convention has ended.
General Secretary duo Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma have already booked the Bhrikutimandap hall for Poush 27-29, saying that calling a special general convention is a requirement of the statute.
General Secretary Sharma had met with Acting President Khadka on Saturday to formally call the special general convention so that the entire Congress would take ownership. General Secretary Sharma has proposed that the party's central working committee call a special general convention to make policy decisions and go to the elections with a message of unity.
Since then, informal discussions are also being held on the issue of sharing the constitution among all the political parties that will issue the constitution in the National Assembly elections to be held on Magh 11. Informal talks are underway between Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
‘Earlier, there was talk of a division of power between Congress and UML alone, but since yesterday, there has been talk of a common consensus among the parties that are united in drafting the constitution,’ said a Congress official.
