An agreement could not be reached between the parties of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) President Ravi Lamichhane and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah on Friday.
Discussions were held between Shishir Khanal, Asim Shah from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Kumar Ben and Bhupdev Shah on behalf of Balen from Friday morning. However, a knowledgeable source told Kantipur that no agreement had been reached by late Friday. A leader said, "There will be another discussion tomorrow, only then will Raviji and Mayor Saab sit together."
He claimed that the discussions so far have been positive. Leaders from both sides had prepared the first draft in the afternoon. However, both sides have stated that it could not be finalized.
According to the agreement so far, it has been proposed that Ravi Lamichhane will remain as the RSS President and Balen Shah will be the Prime Ministerial candidate in the parliament after the upcoming elections. President Lamichhane is also ready for this. However, it is said that some other issues are yet to be finalized.
RSP President Lamichhane had discussed cooperation with Balen from 7 pm to 1 am on Monday. After the RSP leaders proposed that Balen could be made the Prime Minister, Lamichhane did not receive a clear proposal. Later, after reaching Chitwan, Lamichhane denied the discussion, saying that it had not reached that stage. After that, Balen started discussions to take the Desh Bikas Party, whose election symbol is the stick, forward under his leadership.
Balen had held political meetings from Wednesday afternoon to late Thursday at the house of his friend Kumar Ben in Jwagal, Lalitpur, who had been supporting him since before he filed his candidacy for mayor. On Wednesday, he met doctor Bhagwan Koirala, Congress leaders Chandra Bhandari, Sunil Sharma, Janmat Party Chairman CK Raut, and Nagarik Unmukti Party patron Resham Chaudhary to RPP leader Gyanendra Shahi.
Balen had met separately with former secretary Bhim Upadhyay, former president of Bibeksheel Sajha Party Milan Pandey, former MP Ramesh Paudyal elected to the Bagmati Provincial Assembly from Bibeksheel, former president of Bibeksheel's youth organization Saroj Gautam, activist Sagar Dhakal, businessman Sachin Dhakal and others.
During those meetings, he had sought suggestions saying that he was trying to move forward through a new party. During that meeting, he had also said that he was preparing a list for proportional representation. After Balen started his political homework, Ravi reached Jwagal on Thursday and met him again. After that, the second-ranked leaders of both sides gathered for discussions to bring Balen and Ravi together.
