Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari left Janakpur for Kathmandu at 4 am on Monday morning, claiming to be ill. Acting Chief Minister Jitendra Sonal met her and bid her farewell, wishing her a speedy recovery.
Province Chief Bhandari, who left Janakpur on the pretext of illness, reached Panas Cottage in Bardibas this morning and appointed UML parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav (Mahottari) as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province as per Article 168, Clause 3 of the Constitution.
Province Chief Bhandari was being pressured by 7 parties including the Nepali Congress to call for two or more parties to form the government as per Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution. UML had also raised slogans at the office of the Province Chief in Janakpur demanding that a government be formed as per Article 168, Clause 3 of the Constitution.
Yadav was also sworn in as Chief Minister at 5:20 am on Monday at Hotel Panas in Kalapani, Bardibas. UML MP Lakhan Das Tatma, Nepal Federal Socialist Party MP Bimala Ansari and RPP MP Kanchan Bichha were also sworn in as ministers without portfolios at the hotel.
On Sunday evening, Province Chief Bhandari had promised to take a decision only after consulting with Nepali Congress, Maoist, LOSPA, CPN-S, Janmat and JSP MPs and 2/3 experts. But on Monday, at 3 pm, she left the Madhesh Province Chief's building in Janakpur and reached Panas Hotel in Bardibas, saying that she was going to Kathmandu for treatment.
