It brings people into contact with different experiences within the country and international realities. Gentle dialogue is the heartbeat of an open society. It is the introduction of a civilized society. Therefore, creating, encouraging, and nurturing a platform for dialogue is indispensable for a democratic and open society.
What you should know
Voices without purpose are just noise, confusing the listener. The voice is loud but not understood. In such a situation, purposeful and gentle dialogue can guide society. It can help overcome the problems and confusion that the country and society are facing.
Amidst despair, a glimmer of hope can be shown. That is why a living society needs questions. Dialogue is needed to find answers to those questions. Dialogue platforms are needed. In such platforms, the situation and the solutions that are explored by new questions filled with ideas refined by experience and energy mature our democratic practice.
It brings us face to face with different experiences within the country and international realities. Gentle dialogue is the heartbeat of an open society. It is the introduction of a civilized society. Therefore, creating, encouraging and nurturing dialogue platforms is indispensable for a democratic and open society.
Scholars say that the amount of dissatisfaction and anger in society is increasing. The reason for this is that there is no suitable platform for dialogue. Those that exist have not been able to feel the movement of society. They have not been able to feel the pulse of people. They have not been able to be objective. They have not been able to determine a solution. The lack of adequate platforms for dialogue is one problem, the failure to establish the effectiveness of the available platforms is another problem.
That is why we have scattered problems. The activism to move forward by handling them has been seen as weak. Due to which we have not been able to heal the wounds of history, nor have we been able to fertilize the hope of the future. Therefore, the 'Kantipur Conclave' organized with the expectation that this time there can be more and more meaningful dialogue, rigorous ideological brainstorming, and ideological sparks in people can be a strong platform.
After the Gen-G movement of 23 and 24 Bhadau, Nepali society is standing at the crossroads of hope and suspicion. The Gen-G movement was held on 23 Bhadau against all the distortions such as instability, inconsistency, corruption, misrule, and nepotism that have flourished under the guardianship of the state. But the movement of 24 Bhadau against the brutal repression carried out by the state turned into a violent demonstration.
The shock of the death of more than 70 people resulted. At the same time, buildings where important state organs and administrative units operate, superstores, commercial centers, and media houses were set on fire, vandalized, and looted. The Gen-G movement created a strong foundation for political purification. It did forcefully intervene. Along with this, death, arson, vandalism, and looting also created national despair. Therefore, the Bhadau movement can only be meaningful if we can create comprehensive reforms and new hope in politics, administration, and institutions at this time. But what kind of reforms and how? Dialogue is necessary for that.
Elections are being held on 21 Falgun. The main responsibility of the post-movement election is to institutionalize the demands and achievements of the movement. Due to the failure to institutionalize the achievements strongly, many revolutions and movements in history have been limited to half-achievements. The fate of movements has been repeated time and again. For complete achievements and improvement in the living standards of the people, mature and energetic leadership is needed. There is currently interest in the society about the form of the upcoming
Parliament. Because the effectiveness of that parliament can ensure that the achievements of the Gen-G movement will be institutionalized and moved forward. There is also an ever-growing desire for development and prosperity. Continuous dialogue and ideological brainstorming are necessary to determine what kind of leadership, what kind of development, for whom development, what kind of prosperity and how prosperity should be achieved. Many platforms are needed for that. 'Kantipur Conclave' is one such platform. It has created an opportunity for mature dialogue.
The platforms for dialogue and their content have been constantly changing. Discussions that were once held in the Chautari are now taking place on social media. But there are also limitations to one-sided dialogue, misleading information flow and the entanglement of algorithms. In reality, the dimensions of the platform have expanded, but meaningful openness has shrunk. Meanwhile, at this time, the widespread use and misuse of AI is increasing in our country.
There have been widespread changes in the political, social and economic realities of the world. There is also a challenge to transform the diversity of our society into unity and collective strength. Among all these, there have been long-standing debates on aspects such as constitutional amendment, effectiveness of federalism, good governance, service delivery, state-citizen relations, economy, employment, etc. Therefore, serious discussions are necessary to overcome all internal adversities and move forward by adapting to the international environment and enriching the society. It is necessary to make ‘Vade Vade Jayate Tattva Bodh’ more meaningful and purposeful.
