As preparations are underway for the fourth round of talks between the government and the meter-billing victims, the Kisan-Majdur Andolan Central Committee against Meter-billing has put forward 3 bottom lines.
A 6-member negotiation committee has been formed under the chairmanship of committee chairman Awadhesh Kuswaha to hold talks with the government, but the government has not yet formed a committee.
Rijan Rana Magar, the central spokesperson of the Andolan Committee, told Kantipur that three bottom lines have been put forward at a meeting of the secretariat for the talks. 'All fake documents should be cancelled, since meter-billing is a crime against the law, there should be a public declaration from the government that fake documents have been abolished, and the government should form a joint task force and make a written commitment to draft a powerful law against meter-billing within 3 months,' he said. The remaining demands should be met as agreed, he said.
Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has been in Bara for three days to hold talks with the victims in an attempt to address their demands.
After the victims started a walk from Janakpur to Kathmandu to protest with a six-point demand, the government had decided to implement the reports of three commissions formed during the then government.
