Durga Prasai, a medical professional and coordinator of the 'Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Mahaabhiyan Nepal', has been arrested again.
Parsa Police Chief Sudip Raj Pathak informed that he was taken into custody from Diyalo Hotel in Adarshnagar, Birgunj at around 9 pm on Monday. He is accused of spreading rumors. ‘We have taken Prasai into custody on the charge of spreading false rumors,’ SP Pathak said, ‘Further investigation is underway.’
Prasai, who arrived in Birgunj via Simara Airport on Monday afternoon, was welcomed by his supporters from the airport to Birgunj. In an interview given to some local media after arriving in Birgunj, Prasai said that he was arrested by the police from Chalnakhel in Kathmandu when he tried to come to Birgunj before the elections saying, ‘Do not vote in the parliamentary elections.’ He said that the police did not allow him to come to Birgunj for the second time, but this time he was successful in reaching Birgunj.
He also accused Prime Minister Balendra Shah of causing suffering to the people by destroying most of the cities in the country, including Madhesh. Accusing that Birgunj was also declared at night and demolished before dawn, he said that he had come to Birgunj with the idea of supporting the Nepali citizens in times of distress. He also said that he was playing the role of the opposition at a time when parties like UML, Congress, and RPP were failing to play the role of the opposition in the House.
Stating that the people voted for Ghanti out of anger from Congress, Maoists, and UML, he also accused the government of venting the anger of KP Oli, Prachanda, Sher Bahadur, and RPP on the people.
He said that he had a program to visit the Shaktipeeth Gahwamai Mata in Birgunj on Tuesday and understand the pain of the people of Birgunj. He also said that if he gets the support of the people of Birgunj, he will fight for the locals who have been victimized in the name of road expansion in Birgunj. Alleging that there is no opposition in the House, he also claimed that there is a huge crowd and support of the proletariat and squatters behind him. He had said that he would not remain silent until the Sanatan Hindu kingdom was established.
His supporters had even chanted slogans outside the hotel for some time in protest against Prasai's arrest.
Recently, he had been arrested several times for election-related offences. After calling for a shutdown targeting the House of Representatives elections on 21 Falgun, the police had arrested him a few days before the elections at the request of the Election Commission.
Prasai has been arrested at least 10 times since 2076 BS on the basis of controversial statements. He has also been released from court every time.
