Tribhuvan University has issued a 35-day notice to vacate encroached land, implementing the report of the Investigation Committee on Land and Immovable Property.

The notice issued by the University's General Administration Division on Baisakh 4 has asked to return all TU land mentioned in the report and those not mentioned.

After the investigation committee formed in 2081 under the coordination of former Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital became inactive due to health reasons, a four-member committee led by Mahendra Kumar Thapa prepared the report.

According to the report, TU has a total of 5,050 ropanis of land, 3 annas, 1 paisa, and 1 daam, including acquisitions in 2013 and 2033 BS. However, it is mentioned that 2,539 ropanis of land has been encroached upon, and various organizations are using the land without an agreement or more than the agreement.

Structures such as petrol pumps, schools, shops, garages, nurseries, monasteries and temples have been built on the university's land. The report also mentions that some land is being used by government agencies.

The report shows that the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has used more land than agreed upon and is operating at a low rental rate. The lab school under the College of Education has occupied up to 109 ropanis of land despite being allowed 20 ropanis.

Similarly, the Tribhuvan University Teachers' Association has been found to have leased out the remaining land to a third party even though it received 8 ropanis of land in front of the Tribhuvan University gate in Balkhu. The land has also been leased out for nursery operations.

The Nepal Teachers' Association has been found to have constructed a building on about 6 ropanis and 12 aanas of land and rented out shutters. It has been concluded that it was leased out to a third party contrary to the agreement and that the university has suffered financial loss. An investigation has been recommended through the CIB and the CIAA.

It has been found that the Tribhuvan University Employees' Association is using about 20 ropanis of land for commercial purposes and the income goes to the association's account.

As it is almost 24 days since the university issued the notice, there is increasing interest in how it will vacate that land.
