The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Development has placed two elephants donated by the Nepal government to Qatar at the Al Khor Family Park and Zoo. The two elephants were sent to Qatar on a cargo plane on Wednesday as part of an announcement made during the visit of Qatar's Emir (King) Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Nepal in 2081 Baisakh.
The Ministry of Municipalities stated that this gift symbolically reflects the depth of bilateral relations and the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as reported by the Qatari newspaper The Peninsula. The two elephants, one male and one female, were born at the Sauraha Elephant Breeding and Training Center in Chitwan National Park. Both elephants are dark brown in color. The female elephant, ‘Rudrakali’, is seven years old and weighs 1,200 kg. The male elephant, ‘Khagendra Prasad’, is six years old and weighs 1,190 kg. The ministry said in a press release that upon their arrival on the evening of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the elephants were immediately moved to their new home at Alkhor Park. The elephants are highly trained and are able to interact positively with the environment and the public, as well as have the ability to adapt quickly, the statement said. This is expected to enhance the educational, tourism and recreational value of Al Khor Park, as well as enhance the overall experience provided to visitors, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Development said.
