Although the statements of Civil Aviation Authority Director General Pradeep Adhikari and former Director Murari Bhandari, who are accused of corruption in the construction of a heliport in Nalinchowk, Bhaktapur, have been completed, there has been no closed-door discussion.
Their statements were recorded in the special court on Friday. A hearing was scheduled for closed arguments in the bench of judges Narayan Prasad Poudel, Hemanta Rawal and Vidur Koirala. Although the closed arguments were supposed to be held immediately after the statements were made, the closed arguments could not be held as one of the judges could not attend, informed Mukunda Niraula, deputy registrar of the special court.
The Special Court Chairman Poudel could not attend because he was hearing the verdict of a case related to Adhikari, who was the Director General of CAN, while he was in the High Court. The next hearing of the case after the statements were made has been scheduled for Sunday.
On Wednesday, the CIAA arrested Adhikari and Bhandari and filed a corruption case against six people. Both the officials who had reached the authority to inquire about the date were arrested from there and a case was filed in the special court. The authority filed the case in the special court on Wednesday with a demand to recover Rs 135.746 crore 213.77 paisa in damages and an equal fine.
The officer is also accused of irregularities in the heliport construction case, the construction of the authority's building in Sinamangal, the construction of regional international airports in Pokhara and Bhairahawa, and the purchase of aircraft surveillance technology in Pokhara.
