Medical practitioner Durga Prasai has been arrested.
According to DIG Om Adhikari, acting chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, he was arrested from his residence in Bhaktapur on Monday midnight and taken into custody at the Kathmandu Police Complex, Bhadrakali.
Durga Prasai, who identifies himself as the coordinator of the Nation, Nationality, Religion, and Culture Protection Campaign, had publicly announced that he would launch an agitation from 7 Mangsir. He was arrested while preparing for the agitation.
Prasai was making violent statements saying that the country would be brought to a standstill, and the security apparatus had put him on 'notice'.
A few days ago, Madhav Khatiwada had reached the Home Ministry for talks with the Prasai group on behalf of the Home Ministry for a 26-point demand letter. Prasai has been arrested twice before for cyber crimes and is the main defendant in the Chaitra 15 81 incident. He is an accused who is out on bail in all three cases. The government had hinted that it may take legal action against those who made anarchic statements, including Durga Prasai. In a meeting of the Security Committee held at the Home Ministry in Singha Durbar on Sunday, it was discussed to control public statements made by various people that were provoking the situation.
In a meeting called to discuss security preparations for the election, the security chiefs had raised the issue of discussing anarchic statements as well. The meeting had decided to take strict legal action against those who incite violence and terrorize the people. According to sources present at the meeting, Durga Prasai's name was discussed in the meeting.
