The weather in most parts of the country has been affected by the influence of the westerly winds and a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain is currently occurring in the hilly and terai regions and light to moderate snowfall in the mountainous regions.
Moderate to heavy snowfall is also occurring in the mountainous areas around Manang and Mustang in Gandaki Province.
Cyclone 'Montha' may have an impact
Meteorologists have said that the impact of the cyclonic storm 'Montha' formed in the Bay of Bengal may also be seen in Nepal. According to BBC Hindi, 'Montha' has turned into a cyclonic storm in the last 6 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert saying that Montha may take a severe form.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department, Montha is currently active slightly above the west-central Bay of Bengal. The department's director, Manorama Mohanty, said, 'This storm will move northwestwards. It is likely to hit the coastal area of Andhra Pradesh between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam this evening or night with a speed of 90 to 100 kmph.'
Meanwhile, Nepal's Hydrology and Meteorology Department has also said that it is monitoring the matter. The department has stated that a study is being conducted on its impact in Nepal and information will be provided by issuing a bulletin.
