Police Inspector Durga Rai, who performed his duty by not allowing prisoners to escape during the protest on Bhadra 24, has been awarded the 'Yogendra Memorial Bravery Award'. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal presented the award to Inspector Rai, who works at the Nepal Police Unaffiliated Gulma, Dillibazaar, at a special ceremony organized at the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, on the occasion of the 70th Police Day on Friday.

Rai, who was born in Ilam, started his service as a police inspector in 2077 BS. During the protests, many police stations in the Kathmandu Valley were set on fire and prisoners were escaping, but the prisoners in the Dillibazaar Unaccompanied Prison led by Rai were unable to escape. Rai's 70-member police team managed to keep 669 prisoners safe. Inspector Rai, even though some groups tried to incite the prisoners during the protests, the police team resisted them with restraint, intelligence, and courage. According to him, his team succeeded in keeping all prisoners, police personnel, and weapons safe by prioritizing security at that time.

Rai, who said he was attracted to security services because he has relatives in the army, has taken training in criminal investigation, VIP security, money laundering, financial crime control and cybercrime.

Rai, who has served in Siraha, Morang and the Special Bureau of the Police Headquarters, has a Master's degree in Public Administration. He had previously received six departmental awards.

On the occasion of the day, Home Minister Aryal presented the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' to retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Krishna Bahadur Rana, the 'Motilal Best Investigator Award' to Dharmaraj Bhandari, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police Headquarters, and the 'Purna Shanti Puraskarta Award' to Bhola Kumar Bhatta, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the District Police Office, Ramechhap.
