Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, accused of gold smuggling, has been arrested.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested him on Sunday. On March 9 of last year, he was assigned to the son to be present when the accused Mahara was called for investigation by the District Public Prosecutor's office. 

The Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission is investigating former Speaker Mahara, who is accused of smuggling gold in collaboration with a Chinese organized gang. The authority has started an investigation against Mahara, who was successively acquitted by the police and the district attorney's office of Kathmandu in the case of smuggling gold by hiding it in electronic cigarettes (Vape) 3 years ago . In the gold smuggling case with Mahara, the authority summoned him to the Tangal office on Thursday and took a statement. 

Mahara was dragged into the investigation in 2079 on the charge of smuggling gold by hiding it in vape . However, under the guise of power, there was no case against him. 

According to the sources involved in the investigation and prosecution, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police has already prepared a report on the 11 times contact with Lui Hansong, a fugitive Chinese national involved in smuggling, from the mobile phone in the name of Krishna Bahadur's son Nirmal. Gold smuggler Daojin Wang also contacted Mahara by phone 11 times. At that time, Mahara's other son, Rahul, seems to have had 28 phone calls.

It has been confirmed in the CIB report of the police that Mahara father and son were involved in gold smuggling and selling worth 85.55 million, along with their telephone numbers. It is also mentioned in the CIB report that Mahara father and son, who are personally related to Lu, a Chinese national who smuggled gold in electric cigarettes (Vape), immediately called the customs officials of Tribhuvan International Airport to help him. According to the report, the plan was not only to bring gold, but after stopping at the customs, there was a plan to abuse the power and sell the gold by auction.

After the political change of 2062/63, with the Maoist peace process, Mahara became an MP 4 times, a minister 6 times and a speaker once. Even before that he was in controversy . 

He was accused of sexual exploitation of an employee of the Parliament Secretariat. Because of that, he resigned from the post on October 14, 2076. What is the case of bringing 9 kg of gold hidden inside the vape? 

When Chinese citizen Lee Hansong came from Fly Dubai on 10th December 2019, he had hidden about 9 kg of gold in 730 bags of VEP. After it was found suspicious during the VEP inspection, it was placed in the customs warehouse of Tribhuvan Airport and further investigation was carried out.

The goods were stored in the customs warehouse for about one and a half months. In the meantime, the gang took some of the employees in their hands and made a change by escaping the vape containing gold from the customs and buying it from the market. The investigation has revealed the fact that Mahara father and son had repeated telephone conversations with employees, gang members and middlemen to release the gold-laden vape before the goods were exchanged.

Customs chief Arun Pokharel revealed the fact that gold had been hidden in it only after further inquiry and investigation when a person from the gang came and said, 'This is a special kind of vape, we will take it ourselves'. However, by that time, the gang had released the gold vape and kept the other vape in the warehouse.
