Former ambassador to Spain, Dawa Footi Sherpa, has expressed deep concern about the social pressure and dual roles faced by women.

Speaking in the first session of the fifth edition of Nirbhik Nari titled 'Invisible Barriers', she said, 'The biggest obstacle in the path of women's progress is the acceptance from the society . Acceptance of us women is the biggest obstacle.'

'Women feel a lot of pressure while working as a good daughter, daughter-in-law and wife,' she said, 'They have to handle responsibilities both inside and outside the home.'

Sherpa mentioned that the people have deep faith in the culture deeply rooted in Nepali society and said, 'Society has unexpected expectations, which makes women more challenging.'

She held the opinion that changes in such social structures are necessary.
