Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba spoke to the higher education minister of Odisha about the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal and the subsequent situation at the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India.
Minister Rana requested Odisha's Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj for a fair investigation into Lamsal's death and legal action against the culprits as well as arrangements for Nepali students there to study in colleges with a safe environment.
During the phone conversation, Indian Minister Suraj informed that the Odisha state has taken the incident seriously and that a high-level investigation committee has been formed for justice and action against the culprits.
He said that a separate hotline has been arranged for the counseling needed by the Nepali students and parents there, and arrangements have been made for the Nepali students who have gone home to be sent back to the hostel for tutoring.
Minister Suraj informed that legal action has been initiated by dismissing the employee who misbehaved with Nepali students in the college and that security arrangements have been made so that Nepali students can study safely in the hostel.
