The Election Commission has determined the expenditure limit of the candidates in the by-elections of the local level to be held on 16th November.
According to Section 64 of the Local Elections Act 2073 and 40 of the Local Elections Regulations 2073, the commission has determined the limit of the amount of money a candidate can spend from the time the nomination paper is registered until the results are announced. According to the
commission, in the by-elections, candidates for the post of head and deputy head of the metropolitan municipality will pay Rs 750,000, candidates for the post of head and deputy head of the sub-metropolitan municipality will pay Rs 500,000, candidates for the post of head and deputy head of the municipality will pay Rs 450,000, and candidates for the post of village head and deputy head will pay Rs 300,000. Fifty thousand rupees and candidates for the post of chief and deputy chief of district coordination committee will be allowed to spend up to fifty thousand rupees.
Similarly, candidates for the post of ward chairman of a metropolitan city can spend up to three lakh rupees, candidates for the post of ward chairman of a sub-metropolitan city can spend up to two hundred and fifty thousand rupees, candidates for the post of ward chairman of a municipality can spend up to two lakh rupees and candidates for the post of ward chairman of a rural municipality can spend up to one hundred and fifty thousand rupees.
