The Kaski District Court on Sunday allowed Ravi Lamichhane, the Chairman of the National Independent Party and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, who was arrested for investigating cooperative fraud and organized crime, to be remanded in police custody for 6 days.

The bench of District Judge Navraj Dahal allowed Lamichhane to be detained for 6 days for investigation with effect from last Friday, the day of his arrest.

In Sunday's debate, District Public Prosecutor's Office Kaski's Attorney Kamala Kafle, Assistant District Attorney Shantidevi Sharma, Bipinraj Tiwari and Ved Bahadur Bista on behalf of the victim argued demanding that Lamichhane be detained and investigated. Senior advocates Sushil Pant and Narayan Ghimire argued for Lamichhane. In the

debate, the government lawyer argued that the involvement of the Gorkha media in the embezzlement of the co-operative's funds was seen from the financial analysis report submitted to the police on May 26 by the committee led by the Pokhara Metropolitan City. According to the report of the Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee, the public prosecutor argued that action should be taken against Lamichhane, the former managing director of Gorkha Media Network. 

The government lawyer told the court that the investigation committee has recommended action against the Gorkha Media's owner in accordance with the existing law and that they have prepared to take supplementary prosecution as directed by the Cabinet of Ministers to implement the report. Former director of Gorkha Media and former DIG Chabilal Joshi, who was arrested in this case, said that Ravi Lamichhane and GB Rai were in charge of the financial transactions during the statement to the police. His statement was also a reason to investigate Lamichhane, the public prosecutor said.

District Attorney Kamala Kafle argued during the debate that since Lamichhane was involved in the crime in the initial phase of the investigation, he should be kept in custody for prosecution in the same manner as other defendants. On October 10, 2077, the company was established with GB Rai and Chabilal Joshi as the directors and the articles of association and regulations were made. Attorney Kafle submitted an argument that Ravi should be kept in prison as he played an important role in the establishment of Gorkha Media and the funds of the cooperative went to the organization and because he is an influential person, his influence may be affected even more if he is outside. Senior advocate Sushil Pant, who argued on behalf of Lamichhane, presented the argument that 'fair trial' can be used even sitting outside. He argued that there was no reason to keep Lamichhane in custody and investigate as the issue of misappropriation in the cooperative had been reported in various reports and had been undocumented.
