Lilaraj Khanal, president of the Nepal Press Union's Valley and Foundation Provincial Committee, has stated that the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has shown insolence in strangling the independent press. After the arrest of Kantipur Media Group Chairman Kailash Sirohia by the police, President Khanal has mentioned that the government is acting against the free press.

 

Sirohia, president of Kantipur Media Group, was arrested by the police from the office of Kantipur Dainik on Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane had the audacity to stand in the House of Representatives on May 6 and attack the independent press in an insulting manner against the mass media. The Minister of Home Affairs gave a signal from the Parliament that the state would suppress the independent press,' President Khanal wrote, 'Home Minister Lamichhane, who was found guilty of taking fake citizenship, is being protested nationwide for misappropriating funds from 4 different cooperative organizations . Kantipur Daily and its other publications were publishing and broadcasting various evidences and information in the cooperative fraud case of Home Minister Lamichhane, who is using two passports and blowing his ears. Sirohia stated that Interior Minister Lamichhane arrested him for revenge for writing news against him.

Home Minister Lamichhane was in the office of Kantipur Media Group for blackmailing and the union says that President Sirohia was arrested by armed police.
