In the House of Representatives elections held on February 21, Kathmandu, which has the highest literacy rate, has had 8,197 votes invalidated.
According to Thakur Prasad Bhattarai, District Election Officer of the District Election Office, Kathmandu, 1,226 votes were invalidated in Kathmandu Constituency No. 10. There are 83,301 voters in that constituency. Out of 60,441 votes cast, 59,215 were valid.
In Constituency No. 9, 933 votes were invalidated. Out of a total of 78,495 voters, 52,740 votes were cast in this constituency. 51,807 votes were valid in that constituency. 623 votes were invalidated in Constituency No. 8. There are 57,811 voters there. Out of 36,794 votes cast, 37,171 were valid.
In Constituency No. 7, 805 votes were invalidated. In the constituency with a total of 68,685 voters, 44,857 votes were cast. 44,052 votes were validated in this constituency. 811 votes were invalidated in Constituency No. 6. 45,248 votes were cast in this constituency with a total of 67,759 voters. 44,437 votes were validated here, according to the District Election Office, Kathmandu.
In Constituency No. 5, 902 votes were invalidated. In Constituency No. 5, 51,969 votes were cast in this constituency with a total of 78,114 voters. 51,067 votes were validated. In Constituency No. 4, 862 votes were invalidated. In Constituency No. 7, 50,963 votes were cast in this constituency with a total of 76,251 voters. Out of the votes cast, 50,101 votes were validated.
In Constituency No. 3, 940 votes were invalidated. In Constituency No. 6, 479 voters, 44,190 votes were cast. Of the votes cast, 43,250 were valid. In Constituency No. 2, 1,095 votes were invalid. Out of a total of 88,708 voters, 59,441 votes were cast. Out of the votes cast, 58,346 were valid. In Constituency No. 1, 434 votes were invalid. Out of a total of 55,292 voters, 32,314 votes were cast. Out of which 31,880 votes were valid.
The Commission has stated that the number of votes invalidated across the country will be known after the counting of all votes is completed on Tuesday. According to the details so far, it is estimated that three to four percent of the votes were invalid, said the Commission's Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC. He also said that the counting of 9.523 million votes for the proportional system has been completed by this evening.
