Heavy snowfall has occurred in Upper Manang. The snowfall, which began around 9:30 pm on Monday night, has not stopped till Tuesday morning.
Snowfall is occurring in the upper areas of Manang from Pisang (3,200 m) to the upper areas and Narpabhumi.
According to Manang Chief District Officer Nawaraj Paudyal, the most snowfall has occurred in the Tilicho and Thorangla areas. He said that information has been received about heavy snowfall from Khangsar towards Tilicho Base Camp. ‘It is raining in the headquarters Chame.’ He said that snowfall has been occurring in the upper areas since 9:30 pm. According to him, tourists passing Tilicho and Thorangla on the Annapurna Cycle Trail have been asked to stop where they are until the snowfall stops.
According to him, there are currently only 800 to 1,000 Nepali tourists towards the base camp towards Tilicho. He said that most of the tourists towards Thorangla are foreign tourists. There are around 1,500 domestic tourists in Upper Manang and around 300 in Chame area. 'Since the tourists who are climbing Himlung Himal towards Narpabhumi are also at the base camp now, we have asked them to stay at the base camp,' he said, 'We have requested not to send tourists from Besisahar until the snowfall stops.'
According to Prakash Adhikari, ranger of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Manang, snowfall is occurring in the upper areas from Lower Pisang. He said that it rained on Monday evening and it has been snowfall since night.
Tourists have been prevented from going to their destinations due to snowfall. 'It is not advisable to go to the destination when there is snowfall.' We have also asked tourists not to go to their destinations until the snowfall stops completely,' he said.
According to him, around 200 foreign tourists have been entering Manang daily for the past week. He said that there could be 1,000 to 1,500 foreign tourists in the upper part of Manang alone.
The administration had issued a notice on Monday asking people to travel only after understanding the weather conditions. After the snowfall, people have been asked not to travel until the snowfall stops. Chief District Officer Paudyal also requested that if there are any tourists in need of rescue, they should contact him.
