Road access has changed tourism in Manang and Mustang: businessman Gurung

Lakshmi Gurung, owner of Yak Donalds in Mustang, said that the access to road infrastructure is changing the aspects of tourism. Speaking at the second session of the 'Gantavya Gandaki' program organized by Kantipur Media Group in Pokhara, she said that there is a change in tourism which is limited to trekking only.

"Due to the accessibility of road infrastructure, the aspect of tourism is also changing, before there were only trekking, less tourists came," she said, "now tourists come by bike and bicycle, and trekkers also come to the district of Manang and Mustang now." Gurung said that they come from group tourism to pilgrims.

In the hotel industry, she said that she is giving space to all who come, not including domestic and foreign tourists. "There is no such thing as not giving money to foreigners, giving to Nepalis or not giving to foreigners," she said She said that there is a challenge for the hoteliers of Manang/Mustang as well. 'Nepalese and foreigners cannot be mixed together because of their different natures, so they cannot get a hotel because of money. Not that,' she said .

He also said that the tourism sector should be classified as expensive, medium and cheap by taking the price of the quality given by the hoteliers . We have to charge according to the service we provide,  If the destination can be evaluated only by classifying it as expensive, decent and cheap, she said, "When we promote the place, we do it as cheap". They look for the cheapest. Because of that cheapness, no one will be satisfied . He said that quality services should be provided according to the needs of tourists and money should be taken accordingly.
