Minister of Economic Affairs of Gandaki Province Takaraj Gurung presented Gandaki as the mother of modern tourism in Nepal and gave information about the tourism development and planning of the province. Speaking in the first session of the 'Gantavya Gandaki' program organized by Kantipur Media Group on Wednesday, he opined that 'agro-tourism' is the priority of Gandaki province.

Minister Gurung said that 'agro-tourism' has been kept as the main priority of the province for the promotion of agriculture and tourism.

According to him, the first priority sector of Gandaki province is agriculture and sustainable development programs have been started by connecting it with tourism which is the second priority. "We are connecting various aspects of agriculture with tourism, such as Bhujung river trout, local chickens, fruit gardens and Raithane crops," he said.

He also said that the state government is helping to economically market Jatjati and Bajagaza by promoting cultural and trade fairs.

Gurung says that the provincial government is committed to creating opportunities for employment and income generation at the local level by providing training for adventure games, koseli ghar, and gharbas program.

'We are currently making a tourism policy and for this, Nature, Adventure, Agriculture, Culture, History, Heritage  We have considered (resource) and religion (religion) as the main approach,' said Minister Gurung, 'We want to make a tourism policy to highlight Gandaki as the mother of modern tourism.' Gurung mentioned that Annapurna first mountain in Gandaki, which is considered as the beginning of modern tourism development, was successfully climbed in the same year.

"This event was the first activity of modern tourism in Nepal, Mount Everest was climbed only three years after that," he said, "In this sense, Gandaki Province is the mother of modern tourism development."
