In Dasain 2081, Viraj Bhatt's film '12 Villages' did a business of more than 19 crores. Actor Sameer Bhatt's craze was greatly increased at that time after the debut film did excellent business at the box office. 'Chhakka Panja-5', which was released along with '12 Villages', directed by Deepashree Niraula, also made more than 15 crores in Nepal. 'Jwai Saab' had a very low business compared to the two films.

This year, like last year, three films were released in Dashain - Balidan , Maitighar and Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta . The audience was waiting to see Sameer Bhatt, who made a grand entry with his debut film last time, this year's Santosh Sen-directed 'Balidan'. This film, which has been in the news for about a year, has not been in the news much since its release.

According to the report till the 23rd, the film had done a business of Rs 4.42 crore. This is much less than the earnings of the two films of the previous year. Not only 'Balidan', the film 'Hari Bahadur Ko Jutta' starring actor Haribansh Acharya in the lead role had collected Rs 39 million and the film 'Maitighar' starring Dheeraj Magar and Upasana Singh Thakuri in the lead roles had collected Rs 28.5 million.

Why didn't the film run on Dasain?

The producers are disappointed as all three films did not do as expected. When it came to '12 Gaun', 'Chhakka Panja 5' and 'Purna Bahadur's Sarangi', Nepali filmmakers were excited about film production. Because 'Purna Bahadur's Sarangi' had broken the box office record so far. But out of all the films released since then, only 'Wool Sweater' and 'Anjila' were able to do good business at the box office.

'Magic' not seen in Dashain

Some filmmakers wait for Dashain and Tihar for the release of their films. Actor Haribansh Acharya was confident that the audience would set aside time to watch the film as there would be a long holiday at that time. In an interview with Kantipur before Dashain, he had said, 'Dashain has long been a festival mood to enjoy. It becomes an atmosphere where families go to watch films with husbands, wives, parents, children and grandchildren.' Many people come to fight for films during Dashain because they think that if they release the film during the long holiday, their investment will be safe and they can earn money.'

Rohit Adhikari, the producer of Maitighar, had told Kantipur before the film's release, 'People seek entertainment during Dashain. I am doing the film business. I seek profit. That is why it seems like this is a good season for business.'

Why did the film not perform as expected even during the long holiday and festival mood? At that time, Rohit Adhikari had said that if the film did not perform, the filmmakers themselves would be responsible for it. 'These days, even though many films are fought for, directors want to take risks. If the film is good, all of them work. If it is not good, even if only one is used, it will not work,' Adhikari had said, 'If it does not work, no one has the right to say that it will not work. We have no right to make excuses.'

As the official said, only 'Pashupati Prasad 2: Bhashme Don' was released in the 2080s. The craze that the film had until the day before its release, decreased immediately after its release. Just as 'Pashupati Prasad' was popular due to 'word of mouth', the craze for the sequel decreased due to 'word of mouth'. As 'Bhasme Don' did not get good reviews, the audience started decreasing from the second day.

Compared to the three Nepali films, the Kannada film 'Kantara: Chapter 1' had done a business of Rs 63.9 crore as per the box office report till the 23rd. Filmmakers complain that the competition between big-budget Indian films during Dashain and giving them more shows has also affected Nepali films. In a conversation a few days ago, actor Harivansh Acharya complained, 'There is no comparison between Kantara, which was made on such a big budget, and our films made on 2/4 crores. Our films have been compared to them during Dashain. That too has been given more. If our films had received those shows, all three would have been better.'

However, there are many examples of Nepali films lagging behind films from famous Indian banners in Nepal. While 'Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi' was doing excellent business in the previous Tihar, Bollywood's 'Singham Again' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' were lagging behind in both business and shows.

Effect of Gen-G movement

Many filmmakers believe that one of the reasons why the film did not do as well as expected this time is the effect of the Gen-G movement. 74 people lost their lives in the Gen-G movement that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24. More than 400 were injured. Several private and public properties were set on fire and vandalized during the protests. Since then, various developments in the country have been happening at a rapid pace. Films like 'Gunyucholo' and 'Magne Raja', which were being released during the protests, were postponed. The release dates of 'Zari 2' and 'Abhimanyu', which were supposed to be released soon, had to be postponed. The heavy rains and floods that hit the country the day after Tika also affected the film industry for a few days.

Now, it remains to be seen how the films that will be released in the coming days will do.
