On this day (May 3) in 1913, the first feature film 'Raja Harishchandra' was premiered in India. The film premiered at Coronation Cinemas in Bombay (now Mumbai).

The film is produced and directed by Dadasaheb Phalke. The film Awaazbina focuses on the story of Harishchandra, a famous honest and loyal king in ancient India. The film depicts the struggle and contribution of Raja Harishchandra despite the ups and downs in his life.  Dattatray Damodar Dubke plays the role of King Harishchandra in the

film. Apart from him, Anna Salunke, Balchandra Phalke, Gajanan Vasudev Sen and other actors have acted in the film. 

Phalke decided to make Raja Harishchandra film after watching the film 'The Life of Christ (1906)' in 1911. After that, in February 1912, he went to London, the capital of England, to learn the various aspects of film production. Phalke took 6 months and 27 days to shoot 'Raja Harishchandra'.
