The Tamang community has celebrated Sonam Lhochhar-2862 (Year of the Horse) with various cultural programs in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia.

The Tamang Society of New South Wales celebrated Lhochhar on Saturday at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta. The program honored the past presidents of the Tamang Society of NSW and community elders.

Speaking at the program, chief guest Jihad Deep praised the role played by the Tamang community in preserving and promoting their language, culture and traditions during their migration. He said that such cultural programs would further strengthen the identity of the Nepali community in multicultural Australia. He said that such programs would play an important role in keeping the new generation connected to their original culture. 

Sanjeev Sharma said that the efforts being made by the Tamang community to preserve their culture in Australia were commendable and expressed his belief that such programs would strengthen mutual harmony and unity among the Nepali community. 

Local Councillor Bhadra Waiba praised the role played by the Tamang Society of New South Wales in preserving the identity of the community and said that the active participation of the Nepali community in Australia's multicultural society is a matter of pride.

Founder and Advisor to the Tamang Society of Australia Ganesh Tamang said that the main objective of the organization is the unity of the Tamang community, preservation of language, culture and religion. He mentioned that such programs are constantly needed to make the new generation aware of their original identity.

President of the Tamang Society of NSW Abiral Tamang thanked all the members, volunteers, sponsors, artists and spectators who directly and indirectly supported the program to make it a success. He stated that the mainstay of the Tamang society is the preservation and promotion of language, culture and religion and expressed his commitment to organize more quality and systematic programs in the future.

The audience was enthralled by the performances of cello singer Ashman Lopchan Ale and popular singer and musician Dil Tamang at the program.

The program was attended by Laxman Gurung, President of the Nepali Indigenous Peoples Federation of Australia, Heupati Gurung, President of the Tamu Samaj Australia, Krishna Tiwari, President of the Australian Nepali Journalists Association, media personalities Hemant Kafle, Dr. Raju Manandhar Takdir Adhikari, Krishna Pokharel, representatives of various organizations, Nepali and Tamang community leaders, intellectuals, artists, youth and the general public.
