The Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has started paying farmers' arrears. DDC General Manager Sharan Kumar Pandey said that Rs 160 million has been paid out of the arrears.
Earlier, 5 months of payment was outstanding, but it has been reduced to 3 and a half months, General Manager Pandey informed. 'It has been only 15-20 days since I came, but we have already paid Rs 160 million,' he said. According to General Manager Pandey, there was an arrears of about Rs 580 million in the last 5 months.
He said that they are working towards the goal of having only 1 month of payment outstanding by Ashar. He further said, 'Right now, we have prioritized the payment of farmers. Now, we have paid the farmers even after cutting other expenses. We are trying to save the corporation even after pushing the salaries of the employees a little further.'
Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary has started paying farmers after presenting the action plan for DDC reforms. Minister Chaudhary said that since the daily transactions and payment process are proceeding regularly, the remaining amount will reach the farmers' accounts in phases. A few days ago, DDC has stated that the demand for its products has increased after Prime Minister Balendra Shah posted a picture on social media saying 'Say Cheese'.
