A classy hotel spread across Rupandehi

From time to time, the tourism businessmen of Ruppandehi come out in protest stating that the tourists who cross the border crossing Belhia are being harassed in the name of security check and the immigration office is not organized.

Recently, since regular international flights were not operated from the Gautam Budh Airport, which connects the district to the international area, they have been protesting since sitting at the gate of the airport. The reason why the private sector should move frequently is to protect their investment in hotel infrastructure and hospitality sector.

With the construction of an international airport in Bhairahawa, investment in the hotel business has been targeted by targeting Indian tourists who come to visit Buddha's birthplace Lumbini and make Rupandehi a 'transit' to Pokhara, Muktinath, Chitwan, Kathmandu and other destinations. The hotel business, which was earlier concentrated in Butwal, Bhairahawa and Lumbini, has now spread across the district. The number of small, medium to large and classy hotels providing tourist services has increased exponentially. Lately, star hotels are operating at a distance of 500 to 1 km. Some are under construction. Star hotels are operated not only in cities, but also in rural areas.  Even though

is not affiliated to a professional organization, small and large hotels are also operated in rural areas to provide hospitality to guests. In the center of 16 municipalities of the district, investments have been made in such businesses for hosting guests and events. Be it near the river bank or near the fish hill-forest, attractive resorts have opened up. Hotels that are running traditionally have expanded their services and facilities by adding investment. There is no dearth of quality guest houses in Devdah, Sainamaina, Suddhodan, Siyari, Saljhandi markets around the Belbas-Bethari road section of the district. There continues to be an increase in investment. A large banquet hall has been constructed targeting weddings, fasts and public events. There are half a dozen water parks in the district for water sports.

Earlier the city-centred hotel business was concentrated around the Butwal-Belhia trade route and the Bhairawa-Lumbini road. From Belhia in Bhairahawa to Chidiyakhola in Butwal, more than 4 dozen standard hotels have been built along the commercial route. Similarly, from Buddhchowk in Bhairahawa to Lumbini, more than a dozen small and big hotels have opened. Apart from the main road, only a dozen hotels are operating in Siyari Rural Municipality, which is famous for fish tourism. Tilottama municipal area in the center of the district is about to become the center of Tare hotel operations. There are more than 80 hotels in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha. In the

district, hotels operating in areas different from the traditional 'hotel hub' have become the choice of tourists. Tourism professionals say that new hotels attract guests because the interests of tourists are taken care of. According to Siddharth Hotel Association Nepal, 150 standard hotels have opened around Bhairawa from Belhia, Lumbini to North Mangalapur. 70 hotels open for tourist services along with five, four and three stars are affiliated to the association. He also has the five-star Tiger Palace by Solti, Siddharth Vilasa.

There are four-star Nance, Maurya, Pauwa, Redson, Nirvana, Asian Buddha, Bhairahawa Airport Hotel and Bhairahawa Garden Resort in Bhairahawa. Along with the recently opened Buddha Regency, there are tourist hotels in Landmark Bhairahawa, Ultra, Hidden Palace, Sunstar, Marigold Palace, Yeti, Samriddhi and Belhia Naka. From Buddhchowk in Bhairahawa to Belhia Naka, there are hotels after each other.

Hotel construction near the international airport has gained momentum. A dozen hotels are now operating in the three kilometer area from the airport to Buddhachowk. Some are under construction. Chandra Prakash (CP) Shrestha, president of Siddharth Hotel Association Nepal, said that the investment has been lost due to the international airport. "Some hotels are still in the planning stage," he said.

He said that after the construction of all the hotels in the district is completed, the investment will reach around one billion. He said that star hotels in and around Bhairahawa have the capacity to accommodate 2,000 people and other class hotels have the capacity to accommodate 4,000 people a day. There are 8 mini-casinos operated by Indian tourists in hotels in the border area and a live casino at Tiger Palace by Solti.

The arrival of Indian tourists has increased after the opening of a classy hotel in Bhairahawa. According to Shrestha, devotees of Buddhism come to visit Lumbini and Buddhasthal. Lately, such tourists are coming to Bhairahawa to stay. Apart from that, Indian tourists with their families come here every twelve months. "Nowadays, the number of Indian tourists who come to Bhairahawa and surrounding areas for entertainment purposes is large," he said.

As the Butwal-Narayangadh section is being expanded, the number of tourists going to Pokhara via Palpa via Siddharth Highway is significant. Shrestha said that tourists who come in this way should not be searched from place to place in the name of 'checking'. "Tourists who have suffered in this way, when they return to their place, they say negative things about Nepal," he said, "Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a one-door system for security checks at the border." A dozen new hotels are operational from Manigram to Yogikuti in North Butwal. Manigram has classy hotels like Dreamland, Manigram Vishram Vatika, Swan Regency, Tulip, SR Hotel, Hotel D Crown, Paua etc. From Yogikuti to Goalpark, The Flamingo, Velvet Lux, New Era, Denevo, Palm, Dream International, Darcys, Avenue and other hotels are operating.

Lately, Butwal has turned into a city of hotels and restaurants, said the president of Nepalese Hoteliers Association (NHA) Praveen Bahadur Pathak. "The current need of Butwal is a night market," he said, "for that, the government should take initiative." He said that although it is a good thing that the hotels are coming into operation, there is a need to diversify the services they provide. Pathak said that if everyone provides only the same type of service, there will be a risk of sinking investment.

NHA has 55 hotel members in the northern region of Butwal. According to Pathak, there is an investment of 4/5 crore to 1 billion rupees in member hotels. He emphasized that Butwal should be kept open round the clock as it is a modern and industrial city. "Indian tourists feel that they have come abroad only after coming to Butwal," he said. "It is necessary for all businessmen to come together to prepare an environment to spend a night in Rupandehi after returning from Pokhara," he said.  Rajesh Mahotra, Deputy Secretary General of the Federation of Hoteliers, says that investment in hotels has been lost as it is a safe business to earn two/four rupees by providing hospitality. He says that because of the leveling of services, there is no chance of being cheated like other businesses, and recently, everyone is ready for investment. "Hotel business is also an easy industry," he said, "that's why investors are attracted."  He said that since there are many small, medium, large and classy hotels in the form of

, there is a 'charm' here for both tourists who have money and those who don't. Mahotra says that because of the wave of 'destination wedding', from small to star hotels, they are building big halls.

New and bigger hotels are continuing to open around Lumbini. There are classy hotels like Lumbini Heritage, Lumbini Buddha Garden, Hokke, Kasai, Buddhamaya Garden and Crystal around the birthplace of Buddha. Some of the hotels there have upgraded, while hotels are being built with medium investment. Now Hotel Barahi is under construction in west-south of Lumbini.

The construction of this hotel has started with the investment of Golyan Group at Danav Kinar under the Bhairahawa-Lumbini road section. Leelamani Sharma, Senior Vice President of Hotel Association Lumbini, said that Hotel Barahi and Hyatt are both five-star hotels. Sharma said that more than 80 small, medium and large hotels are operating in the central area of Lumbini. "We think that the coming season will be the best for the hotel business since some big Buddha Pujas have returned to the Lumbini area," he said, "We are thinking how to sustain the tourists coming to Lumbini."
