The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security will hold the 5th National Labor and Employment Conference in Kathmandu on February 26 and 27 to address the gaps in the labor market. In the conference, a policy has been taken that experts and stakeholders in the labor sector will speak and the government will listen.

According to the Ministry of Labor, a conference is going to be held to improve the policies and laws for job creation.

'We have not been able to use the available labor force properly. For the economic and social progress of the country, it is necessary to protect and promote the sectors that create employment in a creative manner,'' Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari said at a press conference held on Friday at the Ministry of Labour. Minister Bhandari says that a conference will be held to discuss all these issues in a new way and take suggestions. We are working on the next 10 years as a decade of internal employment promotion. It has also been given priority by the 16th National Plan,” he said.

Minister Bhandari said that there is a situation where employment creation sectors should not only be regulated but also have to play a promotional role. Currently, there is little investment in the areas of increasing production and productivity and creating jobs. Our economy has become import based. "Citizens are attracted to foreign employment rather than self-employment and internal employment," he said. On the other hand, we need to create an effective financial and monetary environment for small and medium enterprises.

Minister Bhandari said that policies and capacity development are indispensable for the development of job-oriented technical and professional skills as per the demand in the internal labor market. "It is necessary to increase production and productivity, increase labor demand, adjust skill development according to labor market demand, improve service delivery, formulate appropriate policies and bring balance to labor market demand and supply," he said.

Minister Bhandari said that the country can only take foreign employment as a short-term strategy for economic prosperity. "Increasing internal production and productivity of the country should be the future course of action. The unlimited activities that have appeared in foreign employment, the increase in the cost of migration of workers, and the increase in illegal activities have caused Nepali people going to foreign employment to face various troubles or problems.
