When you think of infertility treatment, many people think of 'In Vitro Fertilization' (IVF). Many people ask the question, 'I have never thought of a test tube baby, why go there?' This matter arose because they could not understand the general method of childless treatment.

A couple has been in regular physical contact for a year. Have not used any family planning. However, if there is no child, we first evaluate such a couple. We first look at the age of both. Also, if the age of the woman is above 35 years, we start testing her. Similarly, men also have different tests according to their age.

In some cases, the problem is solved by counseling and common medicine. If that doesn't solve the problem, we'll see if intrauterine insemination (IUE) is possible. In it, the male sperm is cleaned and selected in good quantity and placed inside the uterus. Because of this, the sperm gets attached to the egg without any obstacles and helps in the conception of the baby. Only if it seems that it is not possible, test tube baby, which we call IVF, will be considered.

Another thing is that 100 percent success is not achieved as soon as IVF is done. This topic needs to be explained to many people. Because various scientific studies have said that its success rate or let's say the situation of taking the child home is 40 to 45 percent. It is the same in Nepal.

The success rate of test tube babies depends on both husband and wife. This includes age. How is the quality of sperm? What is the speed? What problems caused them to need a test tube baby? All of that should be seen. In Nepal, there is a shortage of the skilled manpower required for IVF. It has been almost 25 years since we started IVF services. In the year 2075, the government has made some rules keeping it under specialized service. It is said that only those who have done MBBS or MD and completed one year fellowship can do it. However, that does not address the problem because there are those who have already studied or trained and are doing good work.

dr. It's been more than 20 years since Bhola Rizal started working on it, and it's been 15 years since I did it.

Now there is no talk of going to fellowship. However, if you want to work confidently, you have to go for a fellowship for one year.

- Experts say that the problem of childlessness is increasing not only in Nepal, but all over the world. In this context, the health related round table organized by Kantipur focused on the situation of childlessness in Nepal, the risks it may cause in the future, Dr. Dr. An edited excerpt from Sharma's Opinion .
