”To make the customer happy, I deliver the products of the village to the doorstep of the market”

I started this work thinking that I can do whatever I can in my country. The land will be cultivated and eaten. If we had not worked hard to have the land, we would have had to sell the land to raise our children and send them to study.

In the evening I fill the basket with fruits. I prepare a strong bag to hang on both sides of the kharpan. I also bring lids, scales and plastic thanko boxes to give goods to customers.

In the evening, after preparing the goods to be sold the next day, I wake up confidently in the morning . After finishing my daily work, I eat whatever is delicious in the house and leave the house . No business address . Vegetables and fruits that are available according to the season, I cycle from village to city. Even though fruits and vegetables have been delivered to doorsteps for years, there is no problem in selling the goods.

Since I sell vegetables and fruits produced in the village, customers have also trusted me . He lives in Gochda of Kawasoti Municipality in East Nawalparasi . Now I am 60 years old. Even if you are old enough to relax, you don't want to stay without work . Something must be done. Being a farmer, we cultivate according to the season. After completing the regular work at home, I have been cycling 24 kilometers a day to Kawasoti to sell vegetables and fruits for 30 years.

Most of the green vegetables and fruits that I sell are produced by myself and my neighbors and friends in the village . When there is a shortage, I go to the house of a farmer I know . According to the season, I buy bhogte, lime, amilo, muntala, tama, kathar, belauti, niguro, mango, mustard, green corn, andi rice . I will go to Kawasoti and Danda market with them. Danda and Kawasoti have been my customers for years.

When I started this business 30 years ago, I also used to sell bamboo copper found in the forest . Slowly the copper pine left in the forest . The fear of wild animals started to increase . Now the market has increased in modernity . The demand for organic and seasonal fruits and vegetables produced in villages is increasing. After the increase in demand, I am also under pressure to make the customers happy by delivering the products of the village to the market. Now the prices of fruits and vegetables have increased . Goods have become more expensive due to the large number of consumers. However, I earn 30 to 40 thousand a month .

Daily cycling keeps the body fit . Nowadays, if you don't go to Kawasoti market once, you can't digest your food. Kawasaki is 12 km from my house . It will be 24 km if the hour is doubled. Even though it is tiring while riding a bicycle, it has become a habit. I have three sons, two daughters and a wife . Earning this profession, all the sons studied up to class 12 .

The younger daughter is teaching in the village school after completing her graduation. I still feel sad that my eldest daughter's education stopped at the secondary level. By doing this, I have been able to save two houses and some money. Effort is more than investment in this job . I will continue this work as long as I can. I am not in a position to make a living doing this job . However, since I have been doing it for years, I will continue to do it until my body is exhausted.

There is no health problem in the body . Not even one tablet medicine has to be taken . In the 50s, my friends went abroad to earn money. I started this job thinking that I can do whatever I can in the country. The land will be cultivated and eaten. If we had not worked hard to have the land, we would have had to sell the land to raise our children and study.

It cannot be said that everyone who goes to foreign employment is good. Other people's places, language problems, spending as much as you earn . I hear in the neighborhood that even if our people earn money, they cannot save. One of my sons has built a one-and-a-half storey house by sending Zenten money from abroad . But I feel very worried when my younger son goes abroad and does not return. Another son is working in the army in Nepal. He comes home from time to time, meets, feels happy . But the youngest son is in Dubai.
