Along with the business collapse, it is also necessary to run household expenses. Business was very good before Corona but now there is only escape from the business. It has been 9 years that I have been running the furniture business to make a living even though it was suffering. I started this business as a mason myself. In the beginning, the business was flourishing. Furniture materials worth up to two and a half lakhs were sold per month.
Since the business was going well, I also hired 6 employees. Business has stopped due to Corona epidemic. After not being sold, the prepared goods were stored in the warehouse. It has been 6 years since the end of the Corona epidemic. However, the business is still not going as it was before.
I was born in a normal family of Sainik village located in Barahkshetra Municipality-3. From the beginning, only by doing some work, was there enough food . So I started working from a young age. I learned various skills from a young age. One of which is still making a living as a mason. There is a wife and two sons in the family . After the birth of my youngest son in 2065, I went to Dubai . Foreign life is more difficult than expected. Although he went abroad to make his family happy, he did not want to stay abroad for a long time. I came back to the country in 2071 to stay with my family and work hard.
After returning to Nepal, I was confused about what to do for a while. While working, I didn't earn even 20,000 per month . So I opened a furniture shop with the thought of using my own skills. I brought Sanjay Furniture into operation at Chatra Line located in Dharan-12 in the year 2072 by earning and borrowing from abroad. Now we have to run this business . Now there is no income of even 5 thousand a month. There are 3 employees . One person has a monthly salary of 28,000. Two people work at the rate of 800 per day.
People are attracted to plastic materials because they are cheaper than wood. There is a little sale during the wedding . However, they have stopped giving furniture in marriage. Since there is no income, it has become difficult to afford the salary of employees, room rent, house expenses, and son's education . The monthly rent of the shop is 11,000. It also costs more than 90,000 per month for water, electricity, and staff salaries. That's how expensive it is in the city . It looks like they have earned a lot of income, but the money here has to avoid expenses.
Wood is expensive for furniture. The price of wooden goods ranges from 5 thousand to 60 thousand . There is no profit of even 2 thousand. If more goods are sold, it will be a little easier, but now the income is stagnant . 40,000 per month would be saved, but it would be easy to save the business . But there is no consistency . Sometimes it is up to 50,000 per month . Some months it is as much as 30 and some months it is 5 thousand .
Now the monthly expenses are more. Many things have to be avoided. Sons' education costs more than 10,000 per month. Now it is time to spend on household expenses . There is no income every month . As the income is generated as the goods are sold, it has to be spent properly.
I came back to Nepal with the idea of doing business in Nepal from abroad. In 10 years of doing business in Nepal, I could not collect the money I earned. It is good to avoid spending the money that came today, sometimes even a single item is not sold for months. With the Corona epidemic and the development of online, the furniture business is in a state of collapse when plastic goods are eating up the market. Now all that is left is to escape from this business .
