”For money, I will burn corn for the sake of my body and mind”

It has been 16 years since I made a living by burning corn in the vegetable market of Banepa Municipality. Apart from that, no other business could be done. Unfortunately, I am doing this work because there is little investment. I saved my mother and daughter's household expenses by burning corn.

Now I am 57 years old. Maybe because of old age, I can't work like before . Where is it like when you were fit before? My body and mind are hurt everywhere. Due to problems in his right hand, leg and waist, he does not even have the courage to push the cart . I have been able to do business because my 20-year-old daughter supported me.

The eldest daughter got married and went to Korea. After finishing school in the morning, after my daughter returns, mother and daughter go out to do business . It is difficult to work from 1 pm to 7 pm . We don't go far from Ganesthan in Banepa. Even there, sometimes the municipality does not allow business.

One of Banepa's brothers buys corn from Kalimati in Kathmandu and it has become easy to harvest. Firewood is purchased from a nearby furniture store. Now 60 bushels of corn come in 1,000 bushels. Even in that only 50/55 are good . If you buy firewood for 200 rupees, the daily investment will reach 1200 rupees. I will sell the big one for 35 rupees and the small one for 30 rupees . Sometimes 40 and sometimes 50 corns are sold throughout the day .

All corns are sold and earn up to 15/16 hundred . Maize does not sell on hot sunny days . Good business on a cool day . 3/400 rupees per day is saved by cutting expenses . Achakali is expensive . We had to buy rice, salt, spices, and vegetables. 4,000 room rent per month. School fee of 2400 girls per month is .

Even though he can't read, he wants to teach his daughter a lot . Now she is studying in class 11. I am suffering to give my daughter a good education. Again, Sahara is the only daughter. Earlier there were 4 people in the family . There were husband and wife and two daughters. It has been three years since her husband left her. He suffered from leg pain for a long time. Even though many places were rushed to treat him, he could not be saved.

A year after the loss of her husband, another sorrow was added . I met with an accident on 9th Kartik 2080 . The right arm was broken, the knee bone was broken and the hip was injured after being hit by a motorcycle in the new vegetable market of Banepa. I returned home after three days of hospital stay. After an injury in old age, it takes time to recover. There is no sorrow in life. No matter how much suffering comes, the work has to be done, the market has to go out to run the household business . Four/five months after the injury, I took my daughter with a friend and started to boil corn.

There is a lot of pain when your person is not with you . Even their own village-house will be disturbed. Even though I have a house in Gagal of Khandadevi Rural Municipality of Ramechhap, I don't want to go now. In the year 2058, during the then armed conflict, we came down from the village to Banepa to save our lives. After coming here, I did retail business in Nanglo at first . The husband used to contract to build a house.

The husband and wife were living their daily life with happiness and sorrow. The situation changed after her husband fell ill. We saved 15-20 lakh rupees by working and doing business. Even if the same money was spent on treatment, he could not be saved .
